About Taurus Leather Company
For 40 years, Taurus Leather Company has been manufacturing quality leather goods and associated products for the New Zealand market. Initially supplying local councils and pet shops with collars and leads, Taurus has expanded into the building, farming and electrical sectors, as well as supplying a range of belts and a number of other products to safety and menswear outlets.
In 1988, Stuart & Kerian Savill bought the business of F&A Herman and in 1989 combined this with the assets of Taurus Leather Company and the leather goods division of Bluegrass Products to provide a comprehensive range of products to the many market segments that we supply today. The company has continued to expand in both local and export markets manufacturing and distributing the highest quality product. Taurus acquired Lordwear in 1999 and more recently the apron and canvas division of Geraldine-based Lynn River in early 2005.
The business is now over 20 times larger than the original size and has outgrown premises 6 times. January 1998 saw Taurus Leather Company move into modern factory premises in Mount Eden, Auckland offering close proximity to central Auckland and main distribution links and with the recent addition of 400 square metres of office, factory and warehouse space, continues to grow, offering employment opportunities and contributing to the local economy.
While many of our competitors have taken their manufacturing off-shore or are importing ready made goods, we are committed to keeping as much of our range New Zealand made with New Zealand sourced raw materials wherever possible.
Leatherware still needs a lot of hands on attention and craftwork and Taurus has excellent experienced staff to ensure that the products we manufacture and distribute continue to be of the highest quality.
